The Life & Legacy of Ian McHarg – the genesis of Urban Ecology

The Scottish Ecological Design Association is delighted to invite you to the 4th Howard Liddell Memorial Lecture: Eco Max 4 on

"The Life & Legacy of Ian McHarg – the genesis of Urban Ecology"

Sandy Liddell Halliday will share Howard's enthusiasm about Ian McHarg - the Scottish Landscape Architect and pioneer of regional planning using natural systems. Born in Clydebank, Ian McHarg (1920-2001) established the Landscape Architecture department at the University of Pennsylvania, USA. His book Design with Nature (1969) pioneered "Ecological Planning" and is a seminal book on landscape architecture and land-use planning.

Sandy will present McHarg’s thoughts and ideas - some in his own inimitable words - and share her own recent review of the best contemporary European practice in Urban Ecology.

This enlightening evening will show why Ecological Planning is as vital as ever to support well-being in Scotland.
